I Hate Plastic | EIO Kids Cup Review

I hate plastics, this is true. I hate plastics, how 'bout you? Sorry - I had a flashback to my days as a cheerleader in High School.
Wait, I was never a cheerleader in high school.
Dang. Where was I?
OH! Hating on plastic. My reasons for disliking plastics are much more innocent and naive than the whole "BPA is going to do us all in" thing. I mean sure, it factors in (do you like how nonchalant I was about that?) , but I have other reasons too...
Why I Hate Using Plastic In The Kitchen:
- I don't like that it retains funky smells
- I don't like that it stains
- I really don't like that it can warp in the dishwasher
- I never feel like plastic is clean
Don't be too impressed with my deep, environmentally conscious thoughts. I just really don't like plastics. At all. While The Beast was still on womb arrest, and Gray and I were trying to sort through the copious amounts of things you can buy for babies, we both knew that we wanted glass baby bottles, it was really important to both of us and even though they have downsides (heavy/breakable) it was REALLY important to us - and we loved them.
But then a funny thing happened. Apparently, when kids start destroying everything (including the cat's life) and stop drinking from bottles, the world decides that glass is a bad idea for this age set.
Jerks.
Glass was important to us for the first 8 months of life and it didn't just magically stop being important to us when The Beast could chuck stuff over the edge of a high chair. I personally hate the funky taste that aluminium gives off (don't say there isn't a funky taste, because if you do, you would officially be the world's biggest liar).
The hunt was on.
Then I found my holy grail. EIO Kids Cups.
Yeah, a glass cup. I see you shaking your head - a toddler, with glass? Ha!
Seriously though. It is awesome, and I sincerely mean that. If we are being totally honest, when we first started using it I was kind of disappointed. The Beast was a mess, our floor was a mess, I had to help him too much. But then we had the cup for a few weeks. I don't know when it happened, but something just clicked for The Beast, and he has been using this cup like a champ ever since.

EIO calls it a "training cup", which is a perfect title. I truly and wholeheartedly believe that. The Beast used to take a bottle of water and dump it all over himself. Now he can drink his organic probiotic yogurt smoothies all by himself, straight from the container, he handles water bottles like a champ - and he drinks from them as perfectly as a 12 months old could. It is seriously impressive. Kid has skills, and I credit this cup. It has made our family adventures out so much easier (we often fly by the seat of our pants, and have been known to forget his straw sippy cups once or twice).

See! Look how good he is with a regular cup (I know some kids are born experts at the cup - Wes was at a lot of things, but skilled with a cup was not one of them)! There are a couple of things to note about the cup, first and foremost, it isn't a sippy cup. It is a training cup. There is no valve which was a plus for us, but you have to go in, knowing IT WILL SPILL, just like a regular cup. Also, it is glass (shocked?). The Beast has dropped it several times from his high chair on to our tile, we cringed, waited for it to break, but it has yet to do so. It isn't as fragile as it seems, but we also try to be as careful with it as we can be. I mean, it is glass....I am not here to tempt fate. BUT that silicone sleeve really helps out.
So there you have it. If you are looking for a glass training cup for kids, I can't shut up about this cup (just ask Charlotte), I love, love, love it, and I love it even more because I am over washing sippy cup straws/valves/crazy caps. We are ready to start using regular cups (or at least more often than than we use straw sippy cups)!
One last important point to think about - and I am not going to say much about it because I know NOTHING about it, but apparently, there is some research out there that supports the idea that using sippy cups may delay speech development, again, I know nothing about how reliable this idea is, but it just gets added to my list of "reasons why I am glad we started using the EIO training cup."
Have you tried this cup? Would you? Am I crazy for using glass when I can?

So, when I get some more extra funds up...I will be trying out one of these for SB. She loves drinking from a cup, & I think this would be a wonderful thing for her. Wes makes it look so simple though. We'll see how she does ;)
Ashley,
He was a total mess at first, but you know how one day they can't for the life of them figure out how to do a task, and the next day they are all pro like they have been doing it for forever? Yeah. That was what happened with this. He still spills - what kid doesn't? But it is sooooo nice to go for a hike and not have to bring a sippy/straw cup!
Okay that picture of Gray feeding Wes is just adorable. As are Wes' little feet in the first one.
I have always felt that way about plastic. I wish there were more glass storage containers too.
I agree with everything you said about plastic. I hate it! I found this cup a few months ago and I absolutely love it! It is amazing. I found it after already giving my son plastic cups, and they are a mess at first plastic or glass - it's just the stage.
Spending a little extra cash on this cup is totally worth it!
I'm looking for a great quotes that i can use on my everyday task and duties. Lucky enough to drop by on your blog. Thanks. bbaqzj bbaqzj - 2012 moncler coats.
